GETTING STARTED

5-STEP PROCESS FOR PAINT PROTECTION FILM INSTALLATION

Coverage Selection
We'll help you choose the right coverage level for your vehicle. Options include partial front kits (first 18-24 inches of hood, fenders, bumper, and mirrors), full front coverage (complete hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors, and pillars), or full vehicle wraps. We can also add custom coverage like rockers, door edges, or luggage areas.
Vehicle Preparation
Your vehicle enters our designated film room, kept as clean as possible to prevent debris from getting trapped under the film. We thoroughly clean and prep all surfaces where film will be applied. This preparation is critical for proper adhesion and a flawless finish.
Professional Installation
We run your vehicle's specifications through our software and cut patterns using our precision plotter. Most installations use pre-cut patterns, though we hand-cut certain panels like hoods when it produces better results. The film is carefully applied using proper techniques to ensure no bubbles, wrinkles, or imperfections.
Quality Control & Care Instructions
We inspect every Columbus PPF installation to ensure it meets our standards—our best work goes unnoticed because it looks like it's supposed to be there. We'll provide care instructions to help you maintain your paint protection film and maximize its lifespan.

How Much Does Paint Protection Film Cost?

Pricing for auto paint protection film in Columbus varies based on coverage area and vehicle type:

  • Partial Front Kit (impact areas): Starting around $800-900 for first 18-24 inches of hood, fenders, bumper, and mirrors.
  • Full Front Coverage: Typically $1,800-$2,000 for complete hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors, and pillars.
  • Full Vehicle Wrap: $6,000-$7,000+, depending on vehicle size and complexity.

Additional areas like rockers, door edges, or trunk ledges can be added à la carte. High-end vehicles may cost more due to increased complexity and risk factors. Most partial kits take about four hours. Full front coverage is typically a one-day job. Full vehicle wraps can take up to a week, especially when combined with other services.

Coverage Levels

  • Partial Front Kit: Covers the highest-impact areas, including the first 18-24 inches of your hood and fenders, plus the full bumper and mirrors. This protects the areas most vulnerable to rock chips and road debris at an accessible price point.
  • Full Front Coverage: Provides complete protection for the entire hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors, and pillars. This is our most popular option for customers who want comprehensive front-end protection.
  • Full Vehicle Wrap: Ultimate protection with film covering the entire vehicle. Often chosen for aesthetic changes (satin finishes or color accents) or by owners who want their dream car in pristine condition indefinitely.
  • Custom Coverage: Add protection for specific areas like rockers (to prevent damage from getting in and out), door edges, door cups, trunk ledges, or rear fenders based on your needs.

Film Types & Finishes

  • High Gloss Clear: Our standard PPF that enhances your paint’s natural shine while providing invisible protection. This is what we use for most installations.
  • Satin/Matte Finish: Transform your vehicle’s appearance from glossy to satin. Popular for creating a unique look while still protecting the paint underneath.
  • Color Film: Available for accent pieces like racing stripes, contrast roofs, or spoilers. We can create custom looks using colored paint protection film instead of vinyl for superior durability.

Complete Vehicle Protection Services

While PPF for your car in Columbus protects your paint from physical damage, Performance Auto Spa offers complementary services for complete vehicle care:

Many customers combine PPF with window tinting and ceramic coating when purchasing a new vehicle for complete, long-lasting protection.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CAR PAINT PROTECTION FILM IN COLUMBUS

Most manufacturers offer a 10-year warranty on premium paint protection film products. With proper care and maintenance, PPF can last the entire time you own your vehicle. Our owner, Bo Ryan, has 17-year-old paint protection on his truck that’s still in fine shape. Longevity depends on how well you maintain the vehicle, whether it’s garage-kept, and exposure to harsh elements.

Paint protection film is significantly thicker than vinyl wrap—typically 8 mils thick and can go up to 14 mils, compared to vinyl’s 1-2 mils. That makes PPF essentially four times as thick as standard vinyl used for vehicle wraps. Vinyl tears easier, doesn’t hold up as long, and doesn’t weather as well. PPF provides much more protection for your paint and has self-healing properties that vinyl doesn’t offer. While paint protection is typically clear, the technology is evolving to offer more color and finish options similar to vinyl.

Yes, if your vehicle has factory paint that was properly cured. PPF should remove cleanly without pulling paint off. The greatest risk of damage occurs during installation (if an installer cuts too deep with their knife) or removal (if paint wasn’t properly cured). If you had body work done and the paint wasn’t cured well, there’s a higher chance paint could come off with the film. With quality factory paint and professional installation and removal, your paint should look as good as the day you bought the car.

The film doesn’t require waxing since it already seals your paint. However, applying a coating or sealant occasionally will help the film last longer and maintain its hydrophobic qualities. We recommend avoiding automatic car washes—use touchless car washes or bring your vehicle back to us for hand washing. The harsh brushes in automatic washes can wear out the film over time. Regular washing and occasional application of a quick detailer or ceramic spray will keep your PPF looking its best.

PPF in Columbus is worth considering if you want to keep your vehicle in the best possible condition, especially if it’s a new vehicle, dream car, or high-end vehicle you plan to keep long-term. It’s also valuable if you do a lot of highway driving where rock chips are common. Many customers who buy their dream Corvette, Mustang, Ferrari, or Range Rover want to preserve it, making the investment worthwhile. For daily drivers in harsh conditions, a partial front kit, at minimum, provides excellent value by protecting the most vulnerable areas.

Modern paint protection films have self-healing properties—small scratches and swirls from everyday wear and tear will essentially disappear with heat. Normal sunlight or hot water can make these minor imperfections heal up and vanish. This keeps your PPF looking newer longer, though it won’t heal deep cuts or major damage. The self-healing properties mean your vehicle maintains that showroom appearance despite daily use.

Yes, but it depends on the quality of the paint work. If a body shop didn’t properly cure the paint after repairs, there’s a risk that paint could come off when the film is eventually removed. We can still install PPF on repaired vehicles, but we inform customers of this risk upfront. For factory-painted vehicles from quality manufacturers, this is rarely a concern.
